Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate

At Kabulonga Shopping Centre, hidden in the back of the stylish Kudinda fabric, pottery and furniture shop, you can find the nicest Easter surprise this year. Veldemeers Belgian Chocolates, which opened last Christmas, is now offering hand made, hand decorated Easter eggs made of pure imported Belgian chocolate.

Importing the raw materials from Belgium, the Cocoa Tree company, based in Harare and run by Belgian, Hans Van Hooreweghe, is producing top quality Belgian Chocolates and is exporting those to Lusaka under the Veldemeers trade mark.

Veldemeers chocolates are made from pure Belgian chocolate and other fresh ingredients. Imported nuts such as pistachios from Iran, French walnuts, Spanish almonds and Turkish hazelnuts are also used in the manufacturing process. Veldemeers chocolates do not contain any chemical preservatives and there is also a range of sugar free chocolates.

They have a wide variety of milk, dark and white chocolates and you can select your favourites from the chocolates on display in their air-conditioned shop. Different sizes of boxes are available and are filled for you with your personal selection of chocolates. The well-trained staff then place a ribbon of your choice around the box and finish it off with a dried rose.

Also available are the African theme chocolates such as elephants, hippos and Big 5 chocolate coins. These chocolates are extremely popular with hotels and lodges. Homemade nougat with almonds or macadamia nuts, bars with or without nuts, extra bitter dark chocolates (70% cocoa) and chocolate lollies for the little ones, all make a visit to Veldemeers very interesting.

For Easter, Veldemeers has hand decorated hollow Easter eggs and small Easter eggs with fine fillings, taking into account that children are the biggest consumers of these, so no liqueurs are used for those centres and Veldemeers is also careful to limit the use of sugar in the manufacture of the chocolate centres.

As in Zimbabwe, Veldemeers caters for the hospitality business, producing personalised chocolates in personalised packaging for hotel and lodge rooms and chocolates for restaurants. All details are carefully worked out with the management to supply a product that meets the customer's requirements.

Veldemeers definitely concentrates on offering a personalised service: very little is prepacked and one can drop in, look around, let the staff guide you through this chocolate paradise, make one's choice and then go home and quench your chocolate desire. And no order is too small - even one single chocolate can be bought.

Veldemeers Belgian Chocolates is situated at Kabulonga Shopping Centre, Lusaka (Tel: 01 268-182)
