Mazabuka Mumblings

ANYONE FOR … MUD WRESTLING?  It’s no longer raining cats and dogs – they got rained out months ago in Maz– we’re now into the heavy stuff.  The expression has changed to raining “hippo and hearty beasts (!)”… and the odd elephant!   Mazabuka is in the throes of having the wettest season in the last five years.  Taking the figures from the Nakambala weather station, in November we were 46.8 mm above the long term mean, in December, 39.3 mm above and January is bound to be well above the LTM as well.  Crops are looking great – even some of the coffee trees that suffered from the drought last year have made a remarkable recovery!    Plaintive whining is, however, coming from golfers who have to battle through the jungle in the rough AND the fairway, to find their balls.  Every time the tractors get set up to mow the course, down comes the rain! Although the golf course is in line for a serious face lift later on in the year, it’s a losing battle playing golf at present. And tennis and football too, I’m sure.  In fact the only sportsmen that won’t be suffering at present are the mud wrestlers – they’re out there muddling around in the mangos and mud… somewhere, having a whale of a time!
