Mulungushi Family Fun

A truly memorable and very enjoyable competition was held at Mulungushi Dam over the independence weekend in October.  Not only were the competitors entertained and fed with delicious potjies, but also wives and children were able to bask in the newly built swimming pool. All enjoyed a leisurely, relaxing weekend.

The fishing was normal for Mulungushi with the 10 ten teams landing only 24 bream.  What was wonderful was that the average weight was 1.34kg.  Extra points were awarded for live release and nearly 50% of the bream that were weighed in, were returned live.

The Sunshine Boys, Terry, Mike, Andrew and Ty Toms won the Family team prize.  The Individual team prize went to Dave Thompson, Ray Lewis and Alan McInnes.  With a fitting touch of nostalgia the “Broken Hill Angling Society Shield” – last awarded in 1964 was, resurrected from the cobwebs and won by Alan McInnes for the largest fish of the competition – a 1.996Kg Nembwe.  The junior champion was Alex Clarke with a 1.678Kg Nembwe, which was also released live.

Only 2 barbel were weighed in, the largest by Ray Lewis of 1.666kg.  The ladies prize was awarded to Sarah Jones for her 1.56Kg barbel.

Agriflora, Sunshine Seedlings, The Ashworths, Lilayi Lodge and the Protea Safari Lodge to whom the Mulungushi Boat Club would like to extend a mighty thank-you very kindly sponsored prizes for the competition.

If you would like to join The Mulungushi Boat club, please contact Terry Toms on 096 756-110.
